This article may be interesting for anyone who has seen used commercial vehicle ads online but is unsure if employment using this truck would be prolific or stimulating. Vacuum truck driving could be a great job for anyone who loves operating commercial trucks. Drivers of these vehicles pick up, transfer and discharge various materials. These materials come in a variety of forms such as fresh and brine water, crude oil, wastewater and toxic chemicals. Considering the types of materials that are involved, these operators should undergo various kinds of training, several certification programs and must abide by the hiring company’s operating procedures to perform the job productively and safely. An applicant for a job with these types of vehicles should know the requirements necessary to operate them if they are interested in pursuing this in-demand field.
Educational Prerequisite
Even though there are no specific educational requirements, some companies will only accept those who are high school graduates or those who have received a General Education Diploma (GED). Additionally, the applicant must have a clean driving record. Experience working in a repair shop may also be an advantage.
Driving Experience
Requirements for hiring based on experience can vary from one company to another. For this type of vehicle operation, the applicant is usually required to have two to five years of commercial truck experience.
The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) explains that “driving experience” means the vehicle handler was previously employed by a company that required the operation of commercial trucks, such as vacuum trucks. Subsequently, the applicant needs to have passed a hands-on skills test given by a certified licensing and testing office recognized by each state. Most importantly, after the testing and during the applicant’s employment at their previous company, they must have actually operated commercial vehicles for at least two years.
Licensing
A vacuum truck operator must hold a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) and be certified by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) by having completed any requirements set forth by them.
The following are requirements one must complete to be qualified to receive a commercial driver’s license. They must:
• Be at least 21 years old or above and physically fit. Some states accept 18 year olds, but they are limited to working within that state.
Being 21 years old allows one to do interstate driving. • P ass
a medical exam every two years. The physical exam includes a:
1. Hearing and visual test2. Blood pressure test3. Drug test4. Alcohol test• Have normal upper and lower extremities• Pass a written exam regarding certain rules and regulations• Prove that they can operate the vehicle• Have a good driving record. According to the DOT, a “good driving record” means that they may not hold another license or have a revoked license and may not have any serious traffic violations.
Training
Training for a vacuum truck operator is done informally. New hires must attend a one to two-day training seminar in which they learn: general rules; company policies and safety operations; and complete any necessary paperwork. Some states offer a “hands-on” type of seminar to enhance the knowledge of the operator in handling the vehicle. Certification is given after one passes the training seminar.
Finding a vacuum truck for sale is not that difficult; however, becoming a vacuum truck operator can require more effort. One must undergo several training and skills tests to become certified. The government requires vehicle operators to have a commercial driver’s license. On top of this, the applicant should have medical exams to ensure that they are physically fit to operate the vehicle. The company usually provides safety training regarding operation of the vehicle.
Hopefully the above information will prove useful to those individuals interested in pursuing employment in the field of vacuum truck driver and operator. The best of luck in finding that desired job!

Are Removals Companies Better Than Freelance Truck Drivers?

Whenever you are shifting, there are two ways by which you can take your furniture from one place to another. The first way is to hire a freelance truck driver who would be willing to provide his services at the expense of a certain fee and transport all of your furniture to your desired location. The other option is to hire the services of a professional removals company, which also offers the same services in a much organized manner. However, the difference between the two is that freelance truck drivers generally charge much lesser in comparison to these removals companies. However, there is a marked difference between both of these two options, as is illustrated below.
The most major difference that is visible apart from the prices is in terms of the services provided. Generally, whenever furniture of heavy material needs to be transported, a freelance truck driver would just hire a colleague and along with him would get all of the stuff on board his truck and then take it to the required destination. These truck drivers are pretty reckless, and fail to take care of your furniture and important stuff properly.
For these reasons, a lot of damage is caused while loading and unloading. Because they are not skilled and experienced in moving heavy furniture and often take it as a side earning, you cannot expect much from freelance truck drivers apart from a lower and a negotiable fee.
On the other hand, removals companies offer professionally trained staff which is skilled in the art of handling delicate, wooden furniture as well as fragile stuff. They will take the utmost care of your belongings and make sure that none of them go amiss or get damaged.
Because they are hired to professionally do this by removals companies, workers and movers that you get form the company would be totally devoted to their job as well, making sure that you have no complaints once the work is done. Moreover, most of the removals companies also offer insurance options to their customers, so that in case any of their important belongings or expensive furniture is damaged in the shifting process by the company officials, it would be the company• s job to pay back the complete amount of damage that has been done.
Therefore, in case of removals companies, even if you have to pay a bit more than others, you will have the assurance that all of your belongings will be delivered to you in a safe and sound manner.

Staying Alert on Courier Driving Jobs

Article by Norman Dulwich
When you have been hired to do a few courier driving jobs up and down the roads across the States, while racking up the miles you may have to consider ways to stay awake and fully alert as you roll. There are several ways to help you keep your eyes open and your reflexes sharp that don’t require you to drown yourself in strong, truck stop coffee.
These methods of staying focused on the asphalt range from listening to the radio to playing various games. Books on tape — While a big macho man doing courier driving jobs may not like to admit their love for/addiction to books on tape or CD, it’s really quite a good way to keep your mind engaged as the lines in the road all start to blend.
Pulling into a truck stop (or some restaurants) and either buying or renting a book on tape is almost guaranteed to keep you awake by engaging with your mind and your ears as you run those courier driving jobs. One note of advice, though, if you are going for a book on tape you may want to avoid the sappy love stories, crying while driving is not only annoying, but can also be a bit unsafe. Instead, go for an action packed adventure or a popular book that has a movie as well. That way after you have stopped for the night, you can watch a bit of the movie and see how it compares with the written story. Games — Just like when you were a kid riding along with your parents, playing games while on courier driver jobs is a great way to stay awake and keep your mind engaged with what is going on around you on the road. Why not try a music game, where you and your passenger, if you have one, have to guess the song title and artist first? Don’t cheat with a satellite radio that tells you the name and title on a little screen, but go with a local radio station and try your chances on the different parts of the country’s various music styles. Go for a round of 10 or 20, and make things interesting by having the loser buy the winner lunch at your next stop. Another perennial favorite is the alphabet memory game; perfect for keeping your mind engaged on courier driving jobs. You pick a theme and go through the alphabet one by one, naming an animal or song or whatever you choose within the theme. The next person has to repeat all that was said, before adding something new. For instance, in the list “Ant, Bear, Cat, Dog, Elephant, Frog”, if it is your turn, you must now repeat all those animals before you can add an animal that begins with the letter “G”. The first person that forgets the list loses and then you can start over with a different theme. If you don’t have a passenger and are doing the job on your own, this game can be a little tricky, but actually, sometimes even more fun!
See if you can outsmart yourself!

Truck Driving Jobs Are Highly Sought After Jobs for Many Reasons

Article by Joseph Denaburg
Transportation jobs seem to be some ot the most sincere and respectable jobs America can give. This country draws from the thought that via capitalism, each and every man can easily realize anything the person aspires to accomplish. With out shipping professions this would undoubtedly not have been achievable. Transforming from pony drawn carriages to the modern era of tractors and trailers, trucking industry industry professionals have definitely made the US. Outside of enrolling in the ranks of men and women who have carved our great country, there are quite a few different good reasons to earn money as a CDL driver.
The obvious motive which excites individuals to applying for truck driving jobs. In their first year driving, truckers make around ,000! That is certainly outstanding for a beginning salary! This number doesn’t incorporate the volume that some rookie drivers are paid from transportation firms who prepare these individuals while they train for their CDL examination. During a driver’s 2nd year in the industry, the industry average salary improves to ,000-55,000 yearly. Veteran CDL drivers who use their very own 18 wheelers earn a normal income of over 0,000. You cannot find any other field in this great country which is guaranteed to be in such demand with such high advantages.
Yet another key reason that truckers really like their lives is because these individuals get to see the entire nation. Company drivers and owner operators can potentially travel coast-to-coast, and they’ll usually encounter memories which regular American citizens will not have the opportunity to undergo. An individual has the ability to observe the Atlantic and Pacific oceans in the same week, or you have got the choice to discover the Grand Canyon, the Appalachian Mountains, the Rocky Mountains, the Great Lakes, Yellow Stone Park, or New England (blank) Autumn. Each and every inch of this country has the potential to be visited when an individual makes the decision to become a driver.
A further important motive to become a driver is to enjoy the camaraderie which you will build with your other CDL drivers. Every CDL driver shares a particular connection very much the same as the bond embraced between people in the armed services. CDL drivers put emense strain on their own bodies to promote the country’s affluence.
It’s difficult work, but their energy and dedication is the thing that will keep America moving forward. Around 78% of goods are delivered by trucking companies. Your vehicle, the foods you consume, the apparel you wear, roughly every little thing you make use of in your life appeared to be at one point on a semi-truck. As a result of the great importance of these essential US citizens, the connection of a trucker flows deep.
Driving a truck isn’t really an easy job. It is hard and demanding. A truck driver may frequently fail to see his or her spouse and children, but he or she should sleep easy during the nighttime realizing that he is the reason our country progresses.
Truckers ordinarily have the choice of coming back home each and every day, but the company drivers that generate the most income are usually LTL drivers who typically commute their routes during the night. Quick hauls will ensure you have the possibility to come home to your spouse and children on a nightly basis, but these jobs don’t pay quite as well as lengthy runs.
If you are a weak-minded person, then driving a truck definitely isn’t the best professional option for you. Transportation is a job that involves hard-work and resolve. Driving a truck is definitely a hearty career, which always pays adequately for those who can handle it. It’s difficult work, but at the end of the day, if you can handle the strenuous hours and hard work involved, you will definitely end up being rewarded tremendously by way of becoming a driver.

It is many trucking companies’ mission is to improve the quality of life of truck drivers. The first step in that process is insuring that you are getting paid what your are worth and enjoying who you are working for. Many companies simply don’t address that issue in their compatibility part of this community web site.
This first step allows you to improve your financial situation.
But many times obtaining monetary improvements does not gain you anything if your corresponding expenses go up or your home time suffers. Consequently, the second step toward improving the quality of your life is to budget your income and expenses, record your income and expenses and account for the differences – this is true for both company drivers drivers and owner operators. This will allow you to make sure you are turning your income/wages into real economic gain to you and your family. If you don’t measure it you can’t (and won’t) manage it. By finding a free bookkeeping services you can do exactly this. Those companies do all the bookkeeping so you don’t have to and some do it for free.
Finding the right company will give its members the following free on line bookkeeping services (both company drivers and owner operators – just as important for both). Members receive their weekly settlements stacked side-by-side for whatever time period they chose: monthly increments, quarterly or annually. Members can compare the results of any period to the same time frame in a prior period. For example November 2010 vs November 2009 to see if you are making more or less money. Or November 2010 vs. December 2010 to see if you are improving or not.
These reports will also show how much take home pay/earnings a driver is really making. These reports will also show the real cents per mile you as the driver are achieving. Reports will also calculate each drivers effective hourly pay (this will allow you to see how CSA2010 is impacting your compensation) and tracks your time away from home so you can manage the qualitative aspects of your job.
Some free reports even provide each Member participant a 52 week budget of their revenue and expenses.
Mileage and percentage paid truck drivers and owner operators have the most difficult financial life styles due to the ups and downs of the payment/earnings cycle. Unlike dispatchers and management who get paid the same pay weekly weather a road is shut down or a shipper is closed or a holiday occurs, Drivers pay swings wildly
week to week. This makes knowing a Drivers actual earnings very difficult to understand and track. It also makes meeting monthly car payments, food payments, housing payments extremely challenging. Stop living paycheck to paycheck!
